About Southeast Asian Archaeology

Archaeology in Singapore is a young discipline, and unlike elsewhere in the world, there is no legislation pertaining to archaeological protection, artifact ownership, and pre-development archaeological impact assessments. Despite the want of a regulatory environment, Singapore has a surprisingly rich and active archaeology scene. This site presents some of the major archaeological investigations conducted over the last two decades. The views and opinions expressed on this site are those of the author and do not represent any institution.

The author is a historical archaeologist based in Singapore. Since 2006, he has led all the major investigations in country and continues to lobby for the institutionalisation of the discipline and the enactment of pre-development archaeological evaluation and protection of archaeological assets.
